‘Anterior grabs $20M from NEA to expedite health insurance approvals with AI’ (TechCrunch)

Considering distractions for founders or prospective founders
Today I considered the issue of not doing enough deep work and listened to a talk between Cal Newport and the CEO of the Norwegian national fund. Here are my takeaways.
People check their phones/emails too often to the detriment of deep work. Deep work yields creativity.
Newport focuses on the idea of slow productivity. The name (slow) may be misleading to some, however. By only focusing on a few goals, or one task in any given time, it may look like you’re doing less, in the superficial sense. However, you usually progress much more over the long run doing this.
“If you zoom in on a particular hour, you might say wow this person is slow, they’re just working on something. They’re not running back and forth and jumping on this call or whatever. But you zoom out to the whole year, you say wow look at all this stuff they got done. The perception of slowness depends on what time scale you’re looking at.”
- Cal Newport
Systemize communication and information intake, rather than making it unscheduled, as it risks interrupting deep work/true productivity.

StratupAI Idea: Research Collaboration Platform for Academics
“In academic and research settings, collaboration among scientists, scholars, and institutions is essential for driving innovation and advancing knowledge. A potential startup idea could be a collaboration platform designed specifically for researchers and academics to connect, share findings, collaborate on projects, and access relevant resources. This platform could feature tools for networking, document sharing, research project management, and virtual conferences to facilitate academic collaboration across disciplines and geographical boundaries. By providing a dedicated space for researchers to collaborate effectively, exchange ideas, and accelerate scientific progress, this startup could support the growth of knowledge-sharing and interdisciplinary research efforts.”

From: The hardest lesson for startups to learn (Paul Graham)
“I've seen a lot of startups die because they were too slow to release stuff, and none because they were too quick.”
“As with exercise, improvements beget improvements. If you run every day, you'll probably feel like running tomorrow. But if you skip running for a couple weeks, it will be an effort to drag yourself out. So it is with hacking: the more ideas you implement, the more ideas you'll have. You should make your system better at least in some small way every day or two.”
That’s all for today, thanks for reading. See you on Friday.
