Services and Products
A thought that has come up a couple times is the difference between creating a profitable product or software service, compared to a human based service, i.e. design, consultancy, etc.
In the startup world something like a consultancy is typically seen as less desirable, which makes sense. It usually isn’t very scaleable or as profitable as something like software.
I came across a semi-viral tweet by @Peter, an investor in “B2B SaaS, fintech, AI @m12vc. He notes he was impressed by the fact “that one of the companies with the most revenue from generative AI is a consultancy: Accenture” with “$600M booked this quarter, on track for $2.4B annualized”.
In a similar vein, a popular design account, “Brett @ Designjoy” who often shares his high income figures, says “more people need to build services”, and how “everyone tries to build Saas”.
This simply serves as an observation of two types of business models, but not a recommendation that one is better than the other. Also, I should probably note the cyclical nature of something like consultancy.

The lack of efficient and sustainable building materials is a common frustration in the construction industry. Many traditional construction materials have a negative impact on the environment and are not cost-effective.
